GARVEY BUCHONGO
Garvey is a dedicated Run Perception Researcher at Brooks Running and the Founder of The Freedom to Run Project, a nonprofit organization committed to creating equal access to athletic endeavors for underserved communities through shoe donation, education, and community organization. With a background in kinesiology and a lifelong passion for track and field—beginning at the age of five and continuing through college—Garvey combines academic expertise with personal experience to drive meaningful change in the running community.
At Brooks Running, Garvey plays a pivotal role as a founding member of Brooks Soul, the company’s Black/African American Employee Resource Group (ERG), and also helped establish the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) working group within the Run Research Team. In her role as a Run Perception Researcher, Garvey leads efforts to collect and analyze perceptual data from product testers across the nation, providing critical insights that influence product design, fit, and performance to ensure that Brooks’ products meet the needs of all runners.
Inspired by a family legacy of holistic health, including a grandmother who was a naturopath, Garvey integrates a holistic approach to her work, understanding the importance of physical, mental, and community well-being in achieving athletic success.
